Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that results from a difference in the way a person's brain processes information. Children with learning disabilities are as smart or smarter than their peers, but  they may have difficulty reading, writing, spelling, reasoning, recalling and or organizing information. The effects of dyslexia, in fact, vary from person to person, and there is a great deal of individual variation that determines academic success. The Dyslexic Association in Australia states "A dyslexic individual can be successful because of their abilities not in spite of. A dyslexic may struggle to succeed because of their negative experiences in the learning environment not because of dyslexia." This is a great affirmation of the learning disabled individual’s ability to succeed in adult life.
Dyslexia affects people of all ethnic backgrounds, although a person's native language can play an important role. A language where there is a clear connection between how a word is written and how it sounds, and consistent rules grammatical rules, such as in Italian and Spanish, can be easier to acquire than non-phonetic English.  
The Conference focuses on the theme of planning interventions that contribute towards creating a dynamic future for the individual with a learning disability.
